BIRTHDAY THOUGHTS

My 29th birthday is this Sunday the 4th and as usual it falls on Labor Day weekend. It can be a tricky birthday to have since most of my friends tend to be out of town for the holiday. This year I was feeling very uninspired as to having any sort of party. I know you understand. It's hard to organize a party that is solely celebrating you. Of course when it comes to other people's birthdays I LOVE to celebrate. This Saturday just happens to be FYF Fest in downtown LA and it is exactly what I want to do. A bunch of our favorite bands are playing- we'll dance our hearts out, drink and be merry. On my actual birthday the boy has to work, but he will be out in time to make me a few 19th Centuries and take me to dinner at Sun of a Gun.

On the topic of birthdays, I realize they can be a strange time for people. We put so much pressure on them, like they should be the best day of the year. In my experience, the days you plan on being the best days usually aren't and the days you didn't expect to be, have a way of surprising you. Another thing you are faced with on your birthday is the dreaded- getting older. I have never been someone who morned the loss of my early or mid twenties. I'm actually thrilled to be one year closer to 30 because lets face it, my 20's have been all about career changes, heartbreak, figuring it out the hard way, getting to know myself and what I want. Only in the last two years has life really started to make sense. If only 29 year old Jessie could go back to 20 year old Jessie and tell her that it's all going to be ok, that life gets better, I promise. I'd also tell her to start blogging sooner.

Happy weekend my dearest, sweetest things! I hope it's full of all kinds of unexpected fun. xx

  1. your parents look so cool! it obviously runs in the family :)

i feel the same about age as you (i'm about 6 months younger), i like the confidence & self-awareness that comes with age, plus friendship groups keep getting bigger!

    enjoy your day!

  3. Happy birthday Jessie!! I'm turning 30 in January and I have to say, I'm not as excited about it as you seem to be. Overall, I'm happy where I am but I feel like I wasted my 20s. I feel like I should've done some more and now, those things that I still want to do, seem irresponsible in my 30s.

i hope you have a happy happy birthday!
and i totally get that at times it can feel a little awkward planing a party all about you, or being the center of attention... but, i do really believe birthdays are special days... they may not always be the most perfect days, but they are wonderful! don't forget to celebrate you!!!! you in this world! you are like no other person out there... you are so super special. be grateful for the experiences that have shaped the person you are today, and all the amazing people in your life. it is also a day for them to celebrate you! we are all so lucky.

have a WONDERFUL birthday, whatever it may bring!
    love, L

  6. Happy birthday!!!

I don't think 20 year old Shannon would believe what 33 year old Shannon could tell her about life! That's probably why my 20yrold self got up to a lot more mischief (and heartache)!

    Cheers to your big 29!

  9. Happy birthday, Jessie. I totally agree with your statement about not caring much about moving into your late twenties. As someone who is nearing my thirtieth birthday though...it is a tad scary. Hope your birthday weekend is filled with great food and drinks.

  10. Happy birthday Jess! 29 was a huge year for me, and it only gets better. 30 is the best! I can totally relate about early and mid twenties being tough, but just look at you now. I've never seen you so happy. You are surrounded by so much love and are putting so much beauty into the world. Happy happy birthday gorgeous girl!
